Peachtree City man sentenced to 5 year term for couples traffic deaths

No Category August 15, 2018

A Peachtree City, GA man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison and 10 years probation in the July 2017 high speed wreck in east Coweta County, GA that claimed the lives of a Newnan couple.

Andrew J. Wiemann, 29, pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving in Coweta County Superior Court last week. He was sentenced to 15 years, with five years in prison and 10 years on probation, according to the district attorney’s office.

The July 29, 2017 traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 34 in east Coweta County, claiming the lives of Newnan couple Thomas Mayo, 58, and Pamela Mayo, 57, who died at the scene.

Wiemann approached the intersection while the Mayo’s Ford Escape was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 34 and attempting to make a left turn into the NCG Cinemas parking lot.

The report by Ga. State Patrol Trooper Sgt. Katie Thompson after the incident said an Infiniti driven by Wiemann was traveling westbound in the left lane of Hwy. 54 shortly before 9 p.m.

Thompson said the Infiniti traveled through the red light and struck the passenger side of the Escape, resulting in the Escape traveling off the north side of the roadway.

The Infiniti continued to travel west, coming to a stop in the right lane then becoming engulfed in flames, the report said.
